Websites

There are three ways to build a website:

1) Get a professional to do it;

2) Do it yourself;

3) Go half and half.

1) There are any number of companies out there who will build a website for you. As well as companies like 123.reg.co.uk, there are Christian firms like Church123 and Church Edit which offer a very good job. Their prices vary widely, but expect to pay somewhere between £300-£500 a year. They can either set the site up for you, and you carry out the day-to-day updating, or you can be hands on from day one and design the site on one of their templates. Look out for free trials to see how easy their software is to use!

2) If you have the IT skills yourself, or you know someone who has, you could build a website yourself! Then the only cost is website hosting, which comes in at anything from £60-£150 a year. But remember, if the person who built the website moves on you might be left with problems.

3) Or you could go halfway, and use a website creator like this - Jimdo.com. Wordpress is another alternative. There is limted functionailty, but the good news is that it's absolutely free. This might be a good start for some churches venturing into the internet world for the first time.

Some of our favourite websites...

The Vineyard Life Church

The Vineyard Life Church is a brilliant example of the possibilities of using the internet to good ends.

It looks good, it runs smoothly, it's easy to find your way around. It's good, good, good. It's also designed and powered through Church123.

Hope Chapel

Hope Community Church looks very fresh the moment it bounces on to the screen.

Simplicity with functionality. Good use of video. Plenty to enjoy.

Southwick Church

Southwick Christian Community Church is another extensive website, yet very easy to navigate round and found out information.

It's crisp and clean and not too cluttered.
